How Effect Are the Reds Moves???

We are a little over 2 weeks before spring training begin. The last week and a half or so the reds have been making a little noise this winter. It has come very unexpectedly, because the organization made it very clear at the end of '09 that they wouldn't be making any move in the off-season. They have definitely been one of the most active teams this off-season and in my opinion is not done yet, grant it there hasn't been any blockbuster moves but they have been making moves. I guess some will say that signing the pitcher out of Cuba was a blockbuster move only time will tell. With all the moves comes the question, how effective is the activity??? I can tell you that it has woke up some fans here in Cincinnati, I know people who has requested some good games to attend from me so that's a good thing. I'm no critic but I think it important to really evaluate the moves and see how much are these moves really helping this team. Signing the kid from Cuba is a + but that's a move that was made for the future of the team. The organization wants the fans to believe that there building this team for the future, and some of the moves support that, at the same time some moves make you believe that, they to are looking to win now, which is what the long time reds fans want. Just think about it, the trade to get Scott Rolen, and more recently the signing of 35 year old Orlando Cabrera. Make no mistake I'm not complaining about the moves because I'm one of the fans that want to win now, we are going into the 20Th season since that last time we played in the post season(excluding the '95 1 game playoff). Rolen was an addition that I'm definitely looking forward to watching for a full season. Cabrera on the other hand after really evaluating the signing is a pretty good addition to the infield as well. He's a proven veteran, he is a guy that can hold the shortstop position down pretty solidly defensively, with two gold gloves most recently in 2007. I do not believe he'll make a big difference offensively, i guess you can say he is a better offensive guy then Paul Janish he do have a lot more years in the bigs then Janish. Cabrera had a bad year last year offensively, but he is a career .275 hitter. I would have been OK with Janish at short everyday, but he makes an even better back up. The more recent move, being the trade we made, is a move that I take as a loss for the organization. I don't feel that the move will ever have a huge impact on the organization but a loss is a loss and i think we loss on that one. I like to think that we only made the move to open up some room in the budget, but trading Tavarez added another hole in the outfield, and to give up a young talent like Rosales is not smart to me. Yes, Rosales finish with a average on the major league level of under 200, but in triple A he is a dominant hitter batting well over 300 all this tells me is that he's in between the two level, and a couple small adjustments away from been a quality big league hitter. He's showed signs of being a quality big league player in all parts of the game. Miles and a player to be determined is what we got back in return. Miles is another one of them proven vets that make you think the reds are looking to win now. He's not a young guy, he's solid in the field, a career .282 hitter and most importantly he's very familiar with success have played for the cubs and being a part of the world series cardinals in '04. This is that type of move that can go either way for us, I admit it is exciting to see off season activity, and gives us fans a lil something to look forward too when camp breaks in a couple weeks
